Ascension Parish offers its residents top notch sports fields for baseball, softball, and soccer, as well as basketball and tennis courts and a plethora of youth playgrounds. Many of the parks offer restrooms, covered pavilions, and kitchens, allowing for comfortable family or community gatherings for fun and relaxation for all ages.

Butch Gore Community Park

Butch Gore Memorial Park is famous as one of few complexes dedicated to youth girls’ softball in the entire state. Gore Park is nationally recognized with the USSA softball association, the organization awarded a world-qualifying tournament to the park when it was only two years old. This 20-acre park has four lighted competition fields, two practice fields, and a state-of-the-art concession stand with restroom facilities.

A large playground with swings and playground equipment is available. A large covered pavilion in the concession area can house 20 picnic tables with seating for over 100 people – perfect for spectating or family gatherings.

Darrow Community Center
Playground and Park

The baseball park is large enough to host adult softball as well as youth baseball. A playground complete with play equipment and a basketball court is part of the Darrow Park complex. An office, restrooms, and a modern, well-equipped kitchen for food services are also available.

Abend Community Park and Playground
Mt. Bethel Road, La.. 18

This park is located off La. 18 (the River Road) approximately three miles east of Donaldsonville where you turn south on Mt. Bethel Street. This park contains a playground, a picnic pavilion, and a four-goal outdoor basketball court. There are plenty of places for picnics on the grounds and ample parking.

Geismar Community Center

The newest addition to the collection of parks and community centers maintained by the Parish of Ascension, Geismar Community Center sits on acreage with lots of room for future expansion. The building houses several smaller rooms dedicated to programs for parish youth, including summer reading and math camps, computer sciences, and arts and crafts. One main room provides space for meetings or other family gatherings for groups of 75 or less.

Youth Legacy/Duplessis Park

Over 10 plus acres will be developed over the next three to five years to satisfy anyone looking for a family oriented facility. Multiple tennis courts, several barbecue pavilions for family cookouts, a walking and jogging trail, and a disc golf course are currently on site. Future plans for volleyball and badminton courts, horseshoe pits, and a youth playground are in the works.

Jackie Robinson Memorial Park
35638 Coco Road

This park boasts a concession stand with restrooms, a manicured, lighted ball field, a playground area with a large swing set, and a barbecue pavilion. One basketball court and a multi-use court line the front of the park.

Lemanville Park and Playground
3131 La. 18 E

Just inside the parish line on La. 18, less than half a mile north of the Sunshine Bridge, you’ll find this park with its two smaller barbecue pavilions and a very large picnic pavilion for community or family gatherings. A basketball court, volleyball court, and a small baseball field are at the rear of the complex. A large playground with swings and restrooms are also available.

Modeste Park and Playground

Modeste Park is located along the west side of the Mississippi River in the community of Modeste. There is a large playground for kids, basketball courts, barbecue pavilions, a large pavilion for community gatherings, and a baseball field that is used by the youth and the adults in the area.

Oak Grove Community Center
La. 42 at La. 73

Located in the northern part of Ascension Parish, this park has a playground for the younger set. The park features a splash pad and a sand volleyball court. The Community Center is available for rent and seats approximately 75 persons for small gatherings.

Prairieville Park and Playground
38430 La. 929

The Prairieville Park is located on La. 929, approximately a quarter mile east of the Prairieville Post Office on Airline Highway. The park has a playground, a concession stand with restrooms, a basketball court, and two barbecue pavilions. The park is frequently used to host the adult softball programs in the area.

Paula Park and Playground
16470 Pailette St.

In 1997, Paula Park and Playground became the official home of the Ascension Parish T-ball Association. There are six lighted ball fields for 5- and 6-year-olds to begin participating in the ball program. Paula Park is where all baseball and softball development begins in East Ascension Parish. There is a concession stand, restrooms, a large youth playground, and a large covered pavilion on the grounds.

St. Amant Recreation Park

The St. Amant Park has three lighted ball fields on the grounds and two batting cages that can accommodate four teams at the same time. A walking/jogging trail encompasses the perimeter
of the entire park for a great mile workout. Restroom facilities are available and there is a bridge to the back portion of the property where you can camp in a primitive setting.

Southwood Park and Playground
14318 Parkview Drive

Southwood Park is located to the back of the Southwood Village subdivision. There is a lighted ball field and a multi-use court along with two barbecue pavilions.

J. Leo Stevens Park and Playground
43230 Cannon Road

This facility has seven ball fields, six that are lighted, for 7- to 12-year-old players. There are three batting cages located in the warm up area that can accommodate up to six teams at the same time. The complex also has concession and restroom facilities.

South Louisiana Fair Grounds
717 Church St.

This large park houses five lighted ball fields, a splash park, tennis courts, two concession stands, and three restroom facilities.

Frank Sotile Pavilion
Thibaut Drive

This park features a splash pad, a large pavilion with restrooms which can accommodate up to 300 people, and, according to park officials, will feature an outdoor kitchen by the end of the year.

Hillaryville Park
5216 Marchand School Road

This community park is located behind the historic old Marchand School on Highway 22 between Burnside and Darrow. The park has a playground and is undergoing renovations to provide more features for the community.

Keystone Park

This park offers a playground area with a nearby pavilion. PARC Boat Launches
- Laurel Ridge Road
Located only 100 yards from Stringer Bridge Road, this facility has a fishing pier with a concrete launching site on Babin Bayou.

This double boat launch has one pavilion.
